Acclaimed by Australian author and classical musician Michael Moran for her “crystalline tone and refined touch,” Da Jin Kim is establishing herself as one of the most sensitive, thoughtful, and exciting South Korean pianists of her generation. Her artistry has been recognized with awards at prestigious competitions, including the XII Darmstadt International Chopin Piano Competition in Germany and the 50th Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition in the United States. Known for her mature and imaginative approach, delicate tone, and brilliant technique, Kim’s performances have received widespread praise. Notable appearances include Sunday Night Chamber Music: Trio Osceola at the Music & Arts Community Center in Fort Myers, as a featured soloist at the Frost School’s Bahamas Relief Concert, and as an orchestra pianist in the “Battleground” film-music showcase, a multimedia production presented by the Henry Mancini Institute Orchestra.
Kim holds Doctor of Musical Arts and Master’s degrees from the University of Miami’s Frost School of Music, where she studied under the guidance of Naoko Takao, Kevin Kenner, and Santiago Rodriguez, receiving full scholarships and stipends. Her doctoral cognate is in music theory. She graduated summa cum laude from Seoul National University with a Bachelor’s degree, studying with Hee Sung Joo, and received the Eminence Scholarship and the Kwanak Corporation Scholarship.
Beyond the stage, Kim is a dedicated pedagogue. Since beginning her graduate studies, she has served as a teaching assistant in the Department of Keyboard Performance at the Frost School of Music, teaching private lessons to piano-principal students as well as serving as the primary instructor for undergraduate group piano classes. Currently, she is an instructor at the Frost Preparatory Program, nurturing young talent across a wide range of levels and ages.
